UCSF Medical Center Receives $125 Million Gift To Build New Hospital

UCSF Medical Center has received a $125 million gift for its campaign to build a children’s, women’s specialty and cancer hospital complex at the UCSF Mission Bay campus, near downtown San Francisco. This is the largest support to date for the $600 million hospital fundraising campaign and among the largest gifts in UCSF’s history. The gift, which requires a 100 percent match to encourage support from other philanthropists, was made by Charles F. Feeney, founding chairman of The Atlantic Philanthropies. It is the largest single grant ever made by Feeney or the foundation he created.

Regents approve plans for new UCSF Mission Bay Hospital complex

Today UCSF Medical Center is one step closer to breaking ground for a new hospital complex on the UCSF Mission Bay campus following the unanimous approval by the University of California Board of Regents on the project’s design, budget and environmental certification.
The new facility is designed as a 289-bed integrated hospital complex with three specialty hospitals – for children, women, and cancer patients – located on land adjacent to a 43-acre site that is dedicated to biomedical research. The UCSF Mission Bay campus is located south of downtown San Francisco near the Giants’ ballpark.

The University of California Board of Regents today approved a proposed campaign to raise at least $500 million toward the development of the first phase of UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay.
UCSF is planning to build a 289-bed, integrated medical center to serve children, women and cancer patients on a 14.5-acre parcel, which is south of UCSF’s existing 43-acre life sciences campus at Mission Bay. UCSF leaders are recommending a bold plan to establish state-of-the-art, technologically advanced patient care facilities at three major sites as part of a long-term vision to advance UCSF’s education, research and health care missions.

UCSF launches public process as it plans replacement of UCSF medical center facilities

UCSF officials will meet this month with members of the campus community and public to discuss the future of UCSF Medical Center inpatient facilities, which must be largely replaced to meet the growing demand for specialized care and upcoming deadlines for state-mandated seismic safety standards.
